Back to
bleep tests and tennis lessons.
Hi all, back
from Cyprus last Sunday. Also had a few days in Tenerife with some of
the team the week before that, so back to reality now and time to start
ticking over according to Goodies close season training program!
Tenerife
was a great laugh just for 3 nights with a few familiar names, Ainsworth,
Ardley, Euell, Davis, Holloway, Owusu, Agyemang and Gray. The lads really
enjoyed it and we had a great day watching the cup final in Linekers bar
where I won 5000 quid, oops I mean pesetas, off Neal Ardley. He bet on
the southerners and yours truly had the northerners. Good to see a few
of the young lads there too, hopefully we will be having a promotion holiday
somewhere next season!
Cyprus was
the usual thing for me, meeting up with old Lincoln City lads every year
for a reunion in Ayia Napa. We went for a week but vowed that next time
3 days would be enough, we are all getting too old for all this. Rochdale
were also there as were Cambridge United and my old boss John Beck, we
had a good chat but don't worry I'm not going back to Cambridge just yet.
There was also a rumour that Robbie Savage was having his stag do out
there but he kept a very low profile cause I never saw him. The only minus
point of the holiday was being delayed for 2 days on the way back. We
were put up in a five star hotel for the trouble though with free food
drink and use of all facilities (did I say minus point). Anyway we got
home eventually and that is my fun over with for another summer - it's
time to knuckle down getting ready for the coming season.
I went into
the training ground today and saw a few faces. Blackers- getting better
all the time but not rushing it, Kjetil- looking fit and raring to go
pre-season, Juppy- training with Steve Allen doing doggies and ball work,
and also Stewart Castledine who was a good friend of mine while he was
with us. We ended up going to the David Lloyd gym and he gave me a lesson
in tennis 6-0, 6-1, 6-4. I was just getting into my stride and realised
he'd won 3 sets to 0, yeah right Gareth. It was great to see him though
and he's ready to go this year after suffering with a long term injury
at Wycombe last year. Daley
and Goody were also at the training ground and say they have some great
stuff planned for pre-season, the most hated time for any footballer believe
me! Fat tests, blood tests and bleep tests were all mentioned, gulp.
While I was
away I heard Kelvin and Kenny have both signed new 5 year deals at the
club which is great news for everyone here. Kelvin really deserves it
after a cracking season with 20 clean sheets I think, and that has to
reflect on Kenny too who's been a rock alongside Willo at the back, really
pleased for both of them. I'll be going into the training ground a few
times a week during the summer and hope to get some runs done with Goody
so I know what to expect for next year, I also want to know what is happening
who's coming and who if anyone is going so I'll keep you posted on that.
I'm at Fairfield
Hall on Thursday 31st May for the Disney Channel Kids Awards Roadshow
with the Womble, I think Dane Bowers and a couple of bands will be there
too, I heard a rumour of Atomic Kitten so I'm keeping my fingers crossed
so if anyone fancies it get yourself down there, hopefully we'll have
a good turnout and get a few youngsters involved in the club. Plus you
might see Atomic Kitten but I can't promise anything.
Gareth.
