Absolutely
gutted - but a big thanks.
Absolutely
gutted. I thought we'd done enough. I was warming up at time of the penalty
so I probably got as good a view as anyone, and to me it looked as if
the Fulham player ran into Daz, there was no way Daz could have got out
of the way, they both went down in a heap and the linesman signalled the
penalty (flag across the chest gesture). I
don't know whether the Ref was going to give it but that's history now.
On the playing
side I thought we defended brilliantly right from the front with Jay and
Dave chasing everything down, that sort of rubbed off on everyone and
we looked really solid. I was pleased for Rob Gier who I thought had a
good game and it shows we have depth at the club- he's still only young
with great potential.
The pitch
looked magnificent and that must of helped Fulham develop their passing
game this year- I hope we get sorted soon with our own. The lads were
exhausted when they came off and we showed we can match the best in this
league. I was dying to get involved all game and created a slight chance
at the back post when I did come on, but it wasn't to be.
The fans
were great and I was disappointed that the middle section behind the goal
wasn't occupied by anyone, don't know why Fulham kept it closed but it
would have added to the atmosphere. (ed's note - it was to segregate the
two sets of fans!)
On the way
to the game myself and Jason Euell were talking about the 150 or so that
were getting the boat there. As we crossed over the Thames we saw the
boat- don't know if anyone recognised the coach though.
Day off on
Sunday and I got together with Trond for another rehearsal round at Chris's.
It's going well and we are planning to play a gig locally in late July
early August time so hopefully everything will go well on that front.
Trained today
(Monday) at the Bank of England. The lads who played a full game had a
warm down with Jon Goodman, then some stretching, finishing with a game
of two touch. The other lads in the squad plus the reserves had some possession
work and then small sided games. Good to see some of the promising youngsters
involved with us and some of the older ones too, even Mick Harford joined
in the small sided stuff and I might add ended up on the winning team
with myself. Mark Williams trained again today without a reaction on his
hamstring. I thought we missed him Saturday attacking our corners, so
he could well play a part in the game tomorrow night. Kelvin was also
in fine form this morning as was Par Karlson who hit three great goals.
Huddersfield
tomorrow, big game for them but we're not going to lie down now just because
we cannot make the playoffs. Hopefully we'll finish 7th, only a couple
of points out and people will fear us all the more next year. I want to
be at my best and would hope all the other lads are as professional. I
definitely want one more goal before the season is out, so get ready to
hear the Wild Thing music one more time! No
real knocks to report but Kenny was a touch sore on his groin and didn't
do the warm down, so hopefully he'll be back tomorrow.
Seeing as
Fulham was the last away game of the season I want to personally thank
all our away fans this year, 1 game or every game, Thankyou. You
may sometimes think the players don't realise or appreciate it but believe
me we do, especially me. Hopefully we can give you something really good
to cheer about next year.
Cheers Gareth.
