Endurance tests loom.
Went into
the training ground yesterday morning (Monday), few faces there I hadn't
seen for a while. John Clinkard the Physio was back after a 2 week holiday
which was good for me as he's the one who had a lot to do with me getting
fit after the groin injury last season, so he gave me a checking out and
everything was fine, a couple of clicks here and there but nothing serious.
Juppy and
Blackers both seem to be doing well and will be there or there abouts
when the first pre-season game comes up, both long distance kings so they'll
probably just need some sharpness work and maybe a few speed drills with
Daley or Goodie.
Kjetil and
Andreas had a week each in Norway and are also looking good, Andreas will
be longer than Kjetil by a couple of months but he is positive. Kjetil
has still some pain over the fracture site of his tibia but has been assured
that's pretty normal.
Dessie Byrne
was also in and doing his abductor strengthening work, something myself
and Kenny are well accustomed to. Des says he's looking forward to the
coming season and challenging for a game at left back.
Wayne Gray
also popped in and he is the only casualty at the moment, but its only
a summer cold so he should be okay for Friday or definitely Monday.
All the internationals
are still on their breaks, but I did speak with Trond today and he's doing
fine, disappointed that Norway had some bad results but he said it was
good to get a game. He also told me he's going to play with a band in
Norway on Saturday in front of about 150 people, all the best mate but
they wont be as good as us :-)
Reports on
various site are saying that Neal Ardley is close to signing a new deal
with us. Bang goes my number 7 shirt then eh! -only kidding. I think its
good if we can keep the majority of last year's squad, just hope we can
hang on to Jason but I'm not sure we will. If
anything breaks with anyone then I'll get it on here as soon as.
Goodie made
an appearance at the training ground today and told me that Friday and
Saturday this week are purely testing days:- Speed, Bleep, Fat, and Endurance
tests and a weigh in, sounds great.....not. Don't like the sound of the
endurance test I know what the rest are but that one is worrying me slightly.
He says we are getting the balls out even on the first day which is unusual
in pre-season but sounds great to me, just hope he was telling the truth.
I'm meeting
Stewart Castledine this afternoon and going on his boat which he has on
the Thames somewhere, be good to see him as we have remained pretty good
mates since he left. Really nice guy and never was beaten at an arm wrestle
while at the Dons, even the now Ipswich Hermanator couldn't take him.
Nothing more
to report really except the famous 15lb Carp record came close to being
beaten this afternoon, 13lbs Mirror Carp came out of Bury Hill Fisheries
in Dorking so the long hair picture still remains!
Gareth.
