Looking ahead.

SATURDAY 09 FEB
Just watched the Saturday soccer program on Sky, 0-0 vs Gillingham another clean sheet is great but we could have done with the full 3 points, still only 10 points away though and there is plenty of games to go. I was gutted not to be involved again today, I wasn't even in the squad. The lads had a great win against Man City last weekend and obviously Terry had to keep the same team but it would have been nice to have travelled today. At the moment I'll have to accept the fact that I'm third choice right winger but I'll be working hard in training and the reserves to change that and hopefully earn myself a new contract.

The reserves have had quite a few games lately and yesterday we had a friendly against Palace at their training ground. We lost he game 2-1 but two big plus points were Dean Blackwell and Mark Williams coming through 70 minutes of competitive football. Both did well and Willo was hit hard in a tackle on 60 mins, which in my opinion was a red card challenge by the palace player, and he came out unscathed. I was also pleased with my own performance, getting past the full back and getting some good crossess in. Paul Robinson scored a well executed penalty after a blatent push by a Palace defender on him. Adam Nowland who has been playing very well lately had a quieter game than normal but was told afterwards that he was travelling to Gillingham with the squad so well done Adam. One thing that was missing from yesterdays game were linesmen which really made the first half a bit of a farce, although we got two Palace trainees to run the lines in the second half. Our next game is Monday against Spurs reserves at Kingstonians kick off 7.30 I think.

Training the last week has been difficult with the bad weather we had, but Ernie Tippet and Stuart Murdock put some good sessions on at the start of the week and then Thursday the reserves lined up as Gillingham would do and played 20 mins against the first team.

There was plenty of talk about Lionel Morgan at the start of the week and a bid from Tottenham for £750,000. I've always said that for me Lionel has the potential to go all the way and I think £750,000 is not enough for a player of his talent and potential. Another young player who is doing really well at the moment is Wayne Gray, he seems to be scoring regularly for Leyton Orient and doing himself the world of good. He will be gaining valuble experience from the third division and I'm looking foward to seeing him in a dons shirt in the near future. Another player on loan is midfielder Andy Roberts who joined Norwich for a month, I've spoke to him once and he says he's enjoying playing first team again as he was out of favour here. He says Norwich have a very small squad about 24 compared to our 40 odd, so they rely on loans when things get bad with injuries etc. I wish him all the best and hope he does well there, as his contract runs out in June like a few more of us at the club.

On the injury front now and Dave Connolly isn't too far away, hopefully 2 weeks at the most. I feel for Dave at the moment cause I know how frustrating an ankle injury can be, the last bit seems to take ages. Jermaine also is near training again, I think he'll be quicker than Dave but pulled muscles need to be fully recovered before you can start back. Hakan has the groin curse that comes with this club but he was out on the pitches all week with the physios kicking and running, always a good sign. Kjetil keeps making me look stupid because I keep saying he's going to train and he doesn't so I won't give him the kiss of death this week, and just say hes looking as fit as always. Duncan Jupp has been struggling with a knock on his ankle and is looking at joining back in this week sometime.

A win on Monday will be nice, back in the squad for saturday would be great and hopefully my beloved Blackburn can climb out the bottom three of the premier league.

Gareth.
