Groundhog
Days .
Firstly let
me start by saying, what a finish to the England game last Saturday, absolutely
awesome. I hate watching footy on TV when I'm injured because it frustrates
me so much knowing I can't play at the moment but I think everyone had
to be watching us qualify for next years World Cup. I thought Beckham
was outstanding and held the whole team together when so many of our players
were having off days. I have massive respect for Beckham and really believe
he is the complete player. I was at home watching and cheered as loud
as anyone when that free kick screamed in. Well pleased for the Republic
of Ireland also, with Kendo and DC involved with their World Cup campaign
it will be great to see them in Japan/Korea next summer. DC scored a great
goal and showed no signs of the little calf injury picked up the week
before, and as for Kenny it's just great to see him back fit getting back
to his best for club and country.
Unfortunately
Willo, Hughesy and Trond have all missed out on the world cup next year,
but all appeared in the qualifiers. It's great for the Dons to have international
players in the squad for fans and fellow players alike.
Now back
to things closer to home and its Palace "away" on Saturday. I'm gutted
not to be there having not appeared in the crunch fixture yet - guess
I'll have to wait for the home tie.
The squad
that travelled to and conquered Man City is fully fit with one exception,
Dave Nielsen limped in off the training pitch this week with what looks
like a calf strain, that has yet to be confirmed but things didn't look
too good for him. Trond
was back in training on Thursday and Damian Francis is looking really
good back training with the first team. Juppy is also back training, leaving
myself, Ards, Willo, Kjetil, Blackers and Andreas still in the treatment
room. Ards
is probably looking favourite to return first out of that lot but no one
will be back for at least 3 more weeks.
The fit
lads had Wednesday off and golf was on the agenda for some, relaxation
for others. The injured boys are in every single day as always (Sunday
included), nicknamed "Groundhog Days" for obvious reasons.
Looks like
winter is just round the corner as a massive Birch tree fell on my garage
the other day smashing the roof in. I know what you're all thinking, how
can I keep having all this good luck! I thank my lucky stars my car wasn't
in the garage at the time, but I don't reckon I'll climb on the roof to
try and fix things myself (doesn't bare thinking about)- I'll leave it
to the professionals.
The music
is still plodding along at a steady pace and we are starting to get interest
from TV stations as well as radio but we are going to leave it for a while
before there is any live playing. Chris Perry has had an op on his hand
so he's out of action for a few weeks and it's down to me and Trond at
the moment. Anyway hopefully we can beat our nearest rivals on Saturday
and things will be looking up for everyone, here's to the start of a good
run.
Gareth.
