"Shock
news" .
Arrived to
training today and learnt of the shock news that a contract for a new
stadium at Milton Keynes has been signed.
I say "shock
news" but I guess after all the speculation - Dublin, QPR mergers and
such, and the fact that we need to get away from Selhurst Park a statement
like this was not totally unexpected.
Personally
I am still reeling from the news. We were told late this afternoon and
the lads never really had a chance to talk about this with the weekends
games starting tomorrow. I'm sure over the next few days there will be
reactions from most players in the press.
Being a
Northerner I have settled really well down here, and have got used to
life in London. I know the fans will be gutted with this news being as
passionate as they are. I know the first choice for fans and players alike
would be to have our own ground in Merton. Maybe (hopefully) Merton Council
might review their policy and find they want to hold on to the name and
the club as much as the rest of us, otherwise the prospect of WFC moving
to Milton Keynes is real. I'll keep my site updated as more news comes
in.
The football
side of things seems to take second place today but there's been a few
things going on, unfortunately it's a couple of injuries to report.
Trond Anderson
has pulled out of training today complaining of a sore hamstring and unless
it clears for tomorrow's training he won't be involved this weekend.
New signing
Jermaine Darlington has also had some bad luck going over on his ankle
over at the Bank of England (sounds familiar) so he's also missed a couple
of days.
The news
on my injury isn't great either, after getting back into training last
week and looking sharp as ever (winning all sprints) I am still getting
a bit of jip from the ankle. Steve Allen and John Clinkard have both agreed
that it will be best to stay off it until I'm pain free. I saw the clubs
specialist on Tuesday and he assured me that there's no major damage but
I may have tweaked a couple of ligaments around the back of the capsule
( the sticky out bone of your ankle). How long it takes can vary but it
could be anything up to 3 weeks, hopefully it'll be much quicker than
that. I'll be gutted if I miss the first game but I learnt a lot from
my groin injury and I cannot afford to play through the pain maybe risking
a long term injury.
The lads
have been training every day this week and the sessions have been cut
from 3 to 2 a day, the gaffer has hinted to the younger players that some
of them may be going out on loan to gain experience but no names or clubs
have been mentioned yet.
A couple
of things worth mentioning are that Darren Holloway and Jobi McAnuff are
both suspended for the start of the season Darren with 2 games and Jobi
with 3.
Cheers,
Gareth.
