Lunatic
moments from the Wild Thing.
Strange game
for me against Huddersfield. I was well below par first half then back
to normal second. Not one of my best but nice to get a goal and a couple
of good crosses in (told you all I'd score and you'd hear the song again!!).
We seemed to play down the left all first half and then the right all
second so it was important to be patient early on, not one of my strongest
qualities.
Half time
came and Terry said to me keep your shape and be patient and it'll come,
they seem to put two on me Thornley and Jenkins but Thornley seemed to
give me more freedom second half and I got on with my stuff. Terry also
said "I want you to ring the box on corners" which I was a little disappointed
with as I like to get in the action, but I didn't mind when the ball dropped
out to me for the goal. I just thought hit it towards the far stick and
keep it low and luckily saw it creep in. I didn't agree with The Sun's
version of the goal though, it mentioned "toe poke" and "fluke" yeah right!
Some good
things came out the game too with Lionel coming on up front and showing
a touch of magic (believe me he's got much more than that) and Wayne starting
his first game at home for us- it always settles players down when they've
actually started a game as opposed to being a sub all the time, and although
he was a little quiet last night, I know he has plenty to give the team.
Now then
about that dive!! Let's just say there was no way I was going to get there
with my feet so thought I'd try my head, unfortunately Jenkins read my
mind and it looked bad, but it would have been great if I'd headed it.
I'll try and keep those lunatic moments to a minimum.
So all in
all average game for me made a little better by getting on the scoresheet.
Two days off now with the game being Sunday but I think the reserves play
Watford tonight and I've heard it's been switched to their place because
Sutton is waterlogged.
I was at
Selhurst earlier today getting involved with "Show Racism the Red Card"
which has had a great impact in football and life in general, and it was
good to see so many kids getting involved too. The only knock reported
from last night was Andy Roberts who got a dead leg off Mark Williams!?!
Great to see a decent crowd there last night and hopefully we can sign
off this season with a win on Sunday, I know I want to. Also great to
see my ex-manager John Beck grab a victory last night and Lincoln are
also safe from the drop.
There's
some massive games tonight for teams in our league, Blackburn at one end
and our neighbours at the other, very interesting. I'm sure there will
be few Dons fans keeping a careful eye on proceedings down at Pompey.
See you all Sunday.
Cheers Gareth.
