DEBUT: Bristol City home, 17 october 1992- 2-1 win.
"Started here in midfield. One of my proudest moments in football- we were drawing 1-1 with Bristol City (they had Andy Cole playing) and in the 84th minute we got a corner. I scored the winner with a header, my first league goal was a winner."

HARD WORK : "I played alongside Alan Kimble at Cambridge and he also scored in my debut game, a penalty. Dion Dublin and Steve Claridge were also present when I signed for John Beck for the first time. I was only here 6 months and although I didn't enjoy the first five months I think I needed it to find out football isn't easy, you have to work hard to get places."

DEBUT: Shrewsbury away, 11 january 1992- lost 2-0.
"My football league debut away at Shrewsbury Town playing right wing, unfortunately we lost 2-0 but I could finally say I had played in the football league. Home debut was against Hull City in the Autoglass Trophy, I scored my first senior goal in this game although we lost it 3-2."

GETTING A TASTE FOR IT: "When I made my debut against Shewsbury, I played for nothing, I had no contract wasn't getting paid and didn't even recieve any appearence money. It wasn't until a week later that PNE offered me a six month contract on £95 a week. I only made a handful of appearences but that gave me the taste, and I was hungry from then on."

"Right Wing. Played Altringham at home I think, but I'm a bit unsure about the result, any Vics fans about? Help!"

HARD KNOCKS : "Sammy McIroy was the manager here and I learnt a lot from him. Norman Whiteside was the physio- I had a few hard knocks from teams in the conference but gave a few out too. Training twice a week I had to borrow my Mum's car to make the hour long trip to the Drillfield but it was worth it."

FROM:
straight from school in 1989 TO: 01 august 1991

APPRENTICESHIP: "I didn't got near the first team squad but enjoyed my two years here. David May (Man Utd) and Jason Wilcox (Leeds) were in the years above me. I used to clean Frank Stapleton's boots here. From my year only 2 out of 10 made it into football- Peter Thorne at Stoke being the other one, we still talk when we see each other. I'm still a big Blackburn fan."
